On Friday morning, June 12, 2026, at 8 a.m., the Terrapins briefly set aside their running shoes (yes… for a whole five minutes!) to celebrate the 80th birthday of their Doyen, Bono — now officially our very first active Octogenarian.
The surprise gathering at Veterans Park in Sutton was a real success. Our brand‑new Octogenarian was treated to:
- a delicious birthday cake (thank you Claudine!,
- a souvenir card highlighting his long and glorious athletic career,
- a Terrapins winter running hat,
- and even two lottery tickets — because at 80, you are absolutely entitled to aim for the jackpot.
He also received birthday wishes live from Slovenia, where a travelling Terrapin insisted on joining the celebration despite time zones and Alpine distractions.
The atmosphere was joyful, the smiles plentiful, and the photos abundant — Bono posed more times that morning than an influencer on a promotional tour. Happy 80th, Bono! And as the Terrapins like to say: “If you run long enough, you eventually end up first in your age group.” Bono just proved it… in style.
