Whitehorse, Yukon – August 3, 2025
Our beloved Terrapin Captain, Gilles, has once again proven that age is just a number and that the Terrapin spirit is indomitable. At 72 years old, he completed his second half-marathon of the season, this time on the fearsome Yukon River Trail Half Marathon, renowned for its breathtaking scenery… and his leg-cutting hills.
The course, which winds along the Yukon River through Miles Canyon, Chadburn Lake and the Hidden Lakes, has an elevation gain of more than 860 metres. Suffice to say, it’s not a walk in the park — especially when “Beware of Bears” signs punctuate the route!
But Gilles, true to his reputation, has overcome each climb with determination and each descent with elegance. His arrival at Rotary Peace Park was followed live by several Terrapins, all hanging on to their screens or phones as if at an Olympic final. We are all proud of you Gilles!
